About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Emergency Care Center is responsible for assisting in the provision of care and comfort for patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role involves performing a variety of tasks including hygiene care, assisting with patient activities, serving food, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Completion of a relevant healthcare program (e.g., certified nursing assistant, emergency medical technician-basic, medical assistant, personal care aide, etc.) or active enrollment in core nursing classes.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience performing the essential responsibilities of the patient care technician role.
  • CPR certification required or obtained during nursing team onboarding process.
  • Basic computer data entry skills.
  • Updated knowledge and competency in using equipment related to job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Additional certifications related to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents nursing care measures to meet the physical needs of patients as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Provides hygiene and comfort measures, assuring privacy and preventing undue exposure.
  • Assists patients with bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, nail care, and shaving.
  • Ensures linens are dry, wrinkle-free, and that patients are comfortable.
  • Serves and collects food trays and nourishments, records percentage of diet intake.
  • Assists with patient activities including ambulation, chair, dangling, and repositioning.
  • Provides bed pan/urinal and performs perineal care.
  • Performs bladder catheter care and ostomy care as directed.
  • Obtains vital signs and reports deviations from normal.
  • Records all interventions and observes/report patient responses.
  • Maintains safety and security of patient/family/self/others.
  • Promotes efficient and effective functioning of the unit/hospital.
