The Patient Care Technician (PCT) serves as caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. The Patient Care Technician provides patient-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Work directly with the cardiac catheterization department.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical equipment/supplies preferred.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be on the North Dakota Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry upon completion of training/competency validation or a maximum of four months from the date of initial employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients to their procedure in the cardiac catheterization department.
  • Retrieve medical records, prescriptions and other clinical documentation for patients as requested.
  • Required to lift, or assisting in lifting patients to gurneys, wheelchairs or other devices to facilitate transport.
  • Provide assistance with basic health care needs including: grooming, toileting, emotional and spiritual needs.
  • Assist in transporting specimens, documents or patient possessions
  • Assist with turning over procedure rooms by removing trash/lines, cleaning equipment/floors and changing out sharps containers.
  • Must comply with enterprise guidelines and policies of health, safety and security at all times, and become familiar with medical terms and certain pieces of medical equipment
