About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) position at Baystate Noble Hospital involves coordinating daily activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT will perform a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions, including direct patient care, hygiene, skin care, mobility assistance, and monitoring. The role requires multi-skills to perform duties related to phlebotomy and EKGs, manage equipment, and assist in all procedures on the unit. The PCT is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned. Baystate Noble Hospital is an 85-bed acute care community hospital that provides access to world-class technology, diagnostics, and specialists, serving the greater Westfield community. The 2 North unit is a 31-bed inpatient acute care unit that caters to a broad spectrum of patient acuity, equipped with modern technology and telemonitoring equipment. The hospital emphasizes a multimodal orientation program utilizing evidence-based online education, classroom lectures, and high-fidelity simulation, ensuring tailored orientation for every nurse.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Preferred experience in PCT training or CNA training.
  • At least one year of patient care experience for Level II; three or more years for Level III; four or more years for Level IV.

Nice To Haves

  • CNA certification preferred.
  • Experience in acute or specialty-specific care settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides age-appropriate care to patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for various age groups and applies developmental theories when implementing care.
  • Monitors basic physiological parameters and records routine vital signs within specified timeframes.
  • Obtains and documents weights/heights, abdominal girths, and head circumference as per physician/nurse orders.
  • Reports significant deviations in vital signs immediately as outlined in procedures.
  • Records and reports changes in the patient’s normal drainage pattern.
  • Administers treatments and procedures per BMC policy/procedure.
  • Changes dressings within one hour of the specified timeframe per established procedure.
  • Provides post-mortem care as directed by RN according to Baystate Health's policy.
  • Assists physicians with exams and simple procedures, ensuring patient identity is verified before performing any procedure.
  • Assists patients with elimination of body wastes and provides necessary equipment promptly.
  • Accurately labels and sends specimens within specified timeframes.
  • Measures and records intake and output per established policy.
  • Administers enemas or Harris Drips as ordered per established procedure.
  • Performs Point of Care (POC) Testing and assists in the delivery of ancillary services as directed.
  • Monitors patient’s condition during treatment and notifies appropriate personnel of unexpected occurrences.
  • Documents treatments and activities consistently and communicates effectively with team and patients.
  • Recognizes culturally based patient and family needs and initiates emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Maintains patient safety at all times and functions as a member of the team.
