The Patient Care Technician works on basic care for adult and geriatric patients' needs including, but not limited to comfort, hygiene, safety, environmental cleanliness under the supervision of professional and practical nursing staff. Completes documentation of patient related tasks. Performs all functions delegated by the nurse staff and adheres to the policies, procedures and scope of practice. Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or completion of a nursing assistant program required.
  • Will consider two years as a certified nursing assistant or patient care tech in lieu of education.
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Current Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) (Required within 6 months of hire into an Emergency Room or Behavioral Health Unit.)
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Ability to recognize problematic behaviors.
  • Ability to follow direction of the LPN/RN/Charge Nurse for the shift.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the nurse in collection of data used for assessment of patients' conditions as assigned, including vital signs, weights, blood glucose monitoring, I&O, etc.
  • Assists with the patient's hygiene, nutrition, and personal care needs.
  • Completes documentation of patient related tasks.
  • Ensures patient safety by maintaining a safe environment under the direction of the nurse.
  • Communicates effectively about patient care and needs while on duty.
  • Supports teamwork of the unit in meeting patient needs.
  • Utilizes AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) when interacting with a patient or family.
  • Maintains a clean environment in patient care area.
  • Supports teamwork of the unit in meeting patient needs.
  • Completes patient rounding in accordance with patient assignments and schedule to drive patient satisfaction and safety.
  • Seeks knowledge and opportunities for career development and in support of unit/department growth.
  • Accepts direction of the supervisor and LPN/RN to perform other duties as assigned and participates in LCMC's community events.
