About The Position

The Patient Care Technician position in the Neurology Unit is a part-time role located in Arlington Heights, IL. The position requires working nights from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, including every other weekend. The role involves assisting patients with personal care needs and maintaining their safety and comfort under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, performing basic medical procedures, and documenting patient care in electronic medical records.

Requirements

• Completion of high school.
• Completion of an accredited CNA course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, and use of bedpan or urinal.
• Positions patients and responds to patient call lights.
• Maintains physical safety and comfort of patients under supervision.
• Obtains patient vital signs and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
• Performs procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, and emptying of foley bags as directed.
• Collects specimens such as urine, feces, and sputum.
• Documents basic patient care into electronic medical records.
• Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, and observing patients.
• Answers unit phones and directs calls appropriately.
• May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
