About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Virtua Health plays a crucial role in supporting patients' daily activities and assisting the healthcare team in delivering high-quality care. This position involves direct patient interaction, performing technical duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN, and contributing to patient satisfaction and safety initiatives.

Requirements

• Demonstrates required knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures, and standards.
• Must have strong communication skills.
• High School Diploma or Grade Equivalent Diploma (GED) required.
• Must have successfully completed a PCT course, a fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or have worked an equivalent of 1 year of direct patient care.
• BLS certification is required.
• Phlebotomy training/education is required for the Emergency Department positions.

Responsibilities

• Supports the activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport.
• Performs technical duties as directed by RN/LPN, such as vital signs, point of care testing, bladder scanning, and foley catheter care, and documents appropriately.
• Identifies and communicates changes in patient's status to RN/LPN and responds appropriately.
• Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
• Participates in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
• Assists in the orientation of new hires.
