The Patient Care Tech will be a high school graduate or have a diploma from an equivalent program. The Patient Care Tech will have certified nursing assistant training, EMT training, military corpsman training or medical assistant training or be enrolled in an accredited school of nursing with documented skills equivalent to a certified nursing assistant. Specialized or Technical Education Required: The Patient Care Tech will be a high school graduate or have a diploma from an equivalent program. The Patient Care Tech will have nursing assistant training, EMT training, military corpsman training or medical assistant or be enrolled in an accredited Registered Nursing Program and completion of first clinical rotation required or a graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Program. Manual or Physical Skill Required: Must have good physical health, capable of standing for long periods of time, moving and lifting patients. The Patient Care Tech has three main areas of responsibility:(1) Clerical or Unit Secretary Duties; (2) Direct patient care; (3) Assisting the nursing staff with patient data collection. The Patient Care Technician is assigned specific responsibilities by the unit manager or charge nurse on duty. The Patient Care Technician may be assigned to one specific task or may rotate assignments during their shift. The Patient Care Tech performs all duties, which may include phlebotomy, for those who have successfully met the requirements of basic phlebotomy established by the Laboratory Director.
