About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) facilitates and assists in meeting the needs of patients in the Heart and Vascular Care Unit (HVCU). The PCT performs tasks that can be delegated by a Registered Nurse (RN) and follows the direction of the RN, Lead/Charge Nurse, Nursing Director/Assistant Nursing Director, and House Supervisor. The role requires working some weekends and holidays, and may involve rotating shifts and units.

Requirements

• High School graduate or GED equivalent.
• Completion of the UTMC Healthcare Tech training course and maintenance of CPR/BLS certification.
• Current CPR/BLS certification or successful completion of a State Approved CNA or STNA exam with active certification.
• Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately.
• Ability to plan and organize work and work under supervision.
• Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in their care when performing delegated functions.
• Physical requirements including visual acuity, hearing ability, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.

Nice To Haves

• Recent graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Recent equivalent experience in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in meeting the needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Perform delegated tasks within the scope of practice for unlicensed patient care providers.
• Maintain communication with nursing staff regarding patient care and needs.
• Participate in the training and orientation of new staff as needed.
