About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will perform a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions under the coordination of the Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include direct patient care such as hygiene, skin care, mobility, and monitoring. The PCT will have multi-skills for what is needed on the unit, including performing all duties related to phlebotomy and EKGs. The incumbent is expected to manage equipment and assist in all procedures on the unit, as well as perform other similar and related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of patient care experience for Level II.
  • Three or more years of patient care experience for Level III.
  • Four or more years of acute or specialty-specific care setting experience for Level IV.
  • CNA training preferred for all levels.
  • Proficient in reading and writing in English.
  • Able to maintain professional composure in medium to high-stress situations.
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • PCT training or CNA training preferred for Level I.

Responsibilities

  • Provides age-appropriate care to patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for various age groups and applies developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.
  • Monitors basic physiological parameters and records routine vital signs.
  • Obtains and documents weights/heights, abdominal girths, and head circumference as per physician/nurse order.
  • Reports significant deviations in vital signs immediately.
  • Records and reports changes in the patient’s normal drainage pattern.
  • Administers treatments and procedures per BMC policy/procedure.
  • Changes dressings within the specified timeframe.
  • Provides post-mortem care as directed by RN.
  • Assists physicians with exams and simple procedures.
  • Assures patient identity before performing any procedure.
  • Assists patients with elimination of body wastes.
  • Accurately labels and sends specimens within the specified timeframe.
  • Measures and records intake and output per established policy.
  • Administers enemas or Harris Drips as ordered.
  • Performs Point of Care (POC) Testing.
  • Monitors patient’s condition during treatment and notifies appropriate personnel of unexpected occurrences.
  • Documents treatments and activities consistently.
  • Communicates effectively with team and patients.
  • Functions as a member of the team and assists team members with clinical and non-clinical activities.
