About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) position in the Emergency Department at Glenbrook Hospital is a vital role that supports the healthcare team in delivering high-quality patient care. This part-time position requires working 24 hours per week during night shifts, specifically from 7 PM to 7:30 AM or 11 PM to 7:30 AM. The PCT will be responsible for assisting with various patient care tasks, ensuring that patients receive the necessary support and attention during their stay in the emergency department. The role demands a high level of interpersonal skills, teamwork, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. The PCT will engage in activities that require sustained mental, visual, and auditory attention, as well as manual dexterity. This includes assessing patients, reading and recording patient charts, and communicating effectively with patients and healthcare team members, even when wearing masks. The position also involves potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and other hazardous materials, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 masks or powered air-purifying respirators (PAPRs). In addition to direct patient care, the PCT will be responsible for utilizing appropriate patient movement equipment for lifting and transferring patients, particularly in non-emergency situations. The role may require lifting up to 50 pounds during urgent events. The PCT must be able to work under pressure to meet patient care needs and maintain a compassionate and respectful demeanor towards all patients and colleagues.
