This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department.   • Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others:
  • Performs the priority technical procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally.
  • Provides care services like Basic life support (CPR), ADLs, restorative care, calculates intake and output, lifting, ambulating, transferring, positioning, weights, equipment use, vital signs, phlebotomy, dressing changes, obtaining EKGs, etc.
  • Prepares patient room, charts in the electronic medical record, cleans unit equipment, orders inventory medical/office supplies, and performs other non-complex tasks.
  • Delivers basic patient care under the direction of the RN or other licensed healthcare provider:
  • Prioritizes assigned tasks and patient care activities based on the following: acuity of the need, resource availability, customer/patient preference/request, and other departmental needs.
  • Reports abnormal patient findings and situations to RN or other licensed healthcare provider and takes actions to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Gives rationale for actions or decisions based on logic, successful experience, intuition and/or established policies/procedures.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care:
  • Seeks supervision or assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely and independently.
  • Contributes to continuity of patient care:
  • Initiates and/or maintains job specific interventions to assure continuity of safe and effective care for patients.
  • Complies with established hospital/departmental/personnel policies.
  • Delegation:
  • Delegates tasks to other team members to accomplish direct patient care or support activities.
  • Questions the appropriateness of a task that has been delegated by the RN/Licensed healthcare provider when there are concerns about scope of practice.
  • Enters supply rooms on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions.
  • Refrains from manipulating or removing any intravenous fluids that are stored in the area.
  • High school diploma, GED, or completion of a nursing assistant program required. Will consider two years as a certified nursing assistant or patient care tech in lieu of education.
  • Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants, Certified Nurse Assistant through the Louisiana State Department of Health, or Certified Patient Care Technician/Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant through the National Health Careers Association
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider through the American Heart Association and Non-Violent Crisis Prevention through the Crisis Prevention Institute
