About The Position

The Patient Care Technician position in the Cardiac Renal unit is a full-time role requiring 36 hours per week, primarily during night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with every other weekend required. The role is based in Arlington Heights, IL, and does not require travel. The technician will assist patients with personal care needs, maintain their safety and comfort, and perform various medical tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school.
  • Completion of an accredited CNA course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, and use of bedpan or urinal.
  • Helps with exercising and ambulating patients while maintaining physical safety.
  • Obtains patient vital signs and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
  • Performs procedures such as EKGs, perineal care, and emptying of foley bags as directed by RN/LPN.
  • Collects specimens such as urine, feces, and sputum.
  • Documents basic patient care into electronic medical records.
  • Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, and observing patients.
  • Answers unit phones and directs calls appropriately.
  • May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
