The Patient Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and, according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and patient care procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit.   • Interact with patients and visitors, answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors within the facility.
  • Perform purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
  • Learn patient safe handling skills to assist in the ambulation of patients and to assist nursing staff in transferring, lifting and/or repositioning patients utilizing Safe Patient Handling equipment.
  • Provide basic care by assisting patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
  • Assist with room set up, welcoming of new patients/room orientation, discharging and/or transfer of patients.
  • Accurately complete and document patient care activities including ADL, vital signs, weights, intake & output, and calorie counts according to policy and procedure.
  • Effectively explain and perform procedures (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care and dressing changes under the direction of the nurse).
  • Notify appropriate personnel of response and questions.
  • Collect non-sterile specimens such as routine urinalysis and stool specimens.
  • Accurately perform point of care patient blood sugar testing under the direction of the nurse.
  • Promote and maintain skin integrity by reporting patient problems as they occur, to the appropriate team member.
  • Support the nursing team by indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, etc.
  • Perform unit support duties including answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results and so forth.
  • Eligible to work in the US.
  • Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred.
  • Completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
  • Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by either American Heart Association, required to be obtained within the employee’s introductory period (within 90 days of hire date).
  • No experience required.
