About The Position

The Patient Care Technician position at Swedish Hospital in Chicago involves providing care to patients on the assigned nursing unit under the direction of a Clinical Nurse Manager. The role requires effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and healthcare team members, while adhering to standard and special precautions based on patient needs. Responsibilities include assisting with patient hygiene, meeting elimination needs, setting up patient rooms for new admissions, and assisting RNs with vital signs and patient care. The position requires working full-time hours during the night shift, with every other weekend and rotating holidays. No travel is required for this role.

Requirements

  • CNA certification or successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training course.
  • Minimum six months of previous patient care experience or equivalent.
  • Completion of one nursing clinical rotation.
  • American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organizational and self-directed skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care to patients on assigned nursing unit under the direction of a Clinical Nurse Manager.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Uses standard precautions and personal protective equipment as required.
  • Assists with patient hygiene and elimination needs.
  • Sets up patient rooms for new admissions.
  • Assists RNs in admitting new patients and taking initial vital signs.
  • Assists in providing for nutritional needs of patients.
  • Assists with ambulating and range of motion for patients.
  • Documents vital signs and other patient data in the electronic medical record.
  • Cleans multi-use equipment between patient care.
  • Performs rounding and repositioning of patients every two hours.
  • Maintains clinical competency and performs 12-lead ECGs as directed.
  • Organizes and stocks nursing unit with patient care supplies.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Performs quality controls for Accu-Check and assists with housekeeping tasks.
