Under direct supervision, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides essential patient care activities and performs related support functions within the healthcare setting. This role is crucial in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and support during their visits. The PCT is responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees, ensuring that all interactions are professional, courteous, and appropriate. The PCT plays a vital role in contributing to the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department, which includes data collection, analysis, and compliance with risk management and claims activities. Participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams is also expected, along with adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System, including safety and security policies, infection control procedures, and patient/customer service standards. The PCT is expected to utilize the principles of leadership established by the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONE) and the American Nurses Association (ANA). This includes presenting a positive attitude and professional appearance to patients and customers, respecting patient privacy, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. The PCT must actively listen to patients and provide timely information, demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality. Clinical responsibilities include managing the flow of patients for assigned providers, preparing patients for examinations, accurately recording vital signs, performing phlebotomy, and assisting patients with various needs. Accountability and work ethic are critical components of this role. The PCT must demonstrate an understanding of the organization's fire/safety plan, emergency preparedness plan, and patient safety goals. Compliance with patient rights standards and effective communication with patients are essential for maintaining a high standard of care. The PCT is also responsible for attending mandatory educational sessions and complying with hospital-required competencies, ensuring that they remain knowledgeable and skilled in their role.
