About The Position

The position functions as part of the dialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The role involves operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a clean working environment, and participating in quality enhancement programs to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Must meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements.
• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
• Successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification.

• Experience in a healthcare setting related to dialysis or patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures and disease processes.
• Welcome assigned patients and evaluate their wellbeing since the last treatment.
• Perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin as delegated.
• Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight, and evaluate vascular access before treatment.
• Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders and monitor patients' responses during treatment.
• Document treatment parameters and patient responses accurately on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
• Report significant changes in patient conditions to the registered nurse or supervisor.
• Assist in training direct patient care staff under the supervision of a nurse.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the working environment, including disinfecting equipment and surfaces.
• Participate in infection control audits and education for patients and families.
• Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and coordinate their transitional care.
