About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) performs patient care and observation duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN. This includes tasks such as cleaning patient rooms, operating clinical equipment, assisting in emergencies and patient procedures, and collecting/transporting specimens. The PCT is expected to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team, maintain competencies, and foster a supportive and healing environment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS required.
  • One year of direct patient care experience, OR
  • Successful completion of a nursing assistant training course, OR
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through State of Georgia, OR
  • Current enrollment in a nursing program and completion of 2 clinical rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN.
  • Clean patient rooms.
  • Operate various clinical equipment.
  • Assist with emergencies.
  • Assist with patient procedures.
  • Collect and transport patient specimens and complete applicable forms.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and members of the patient care team.
  • Maintain hospital and unit-specific competencies.
  • Promote a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction.
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed by an RN/LPN.
  • Ensure prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort, and rest are provided.
  • Comply with Standard Precautions guidelines, Infection Control procedures, and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment.
  • Assist in the use of bag-valve-mask device, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, emergency cart, and bedside glucose monitoring machine.
  • Operate converter chair, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometer, sphygmomanometer, pulse oximeter, and computers.
  • Record patient intake and output.
  • Assist RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs by assisting with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, elimination, and hygiene.
  • Observe and report significant or unusual information about the patient and environment to the RN/LPN and document appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Transport patients and patient specimens throughout the hospital as needed.
  • Contribute to the completion of patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Assist with postmortem care.
  • Utilize appropriate technology to complete all related processes.
  • Participate in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement program as required by department leadership.
  • Serve as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.
  • Participate in the orientation of nursing support assistants to the unit.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.
