About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) performs patient care and observation duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN. This includes tasks such as cleaning patient rooms, operating clinical equipment, assisting in emergencies and patient procedures, and collecting/transporting specimens. The PCT is expected to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team, maintain competencies, and foster a supportive and healing environment.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent.
BLS required.
One year of direct patient care experience, OR
Successful completion of a nursing assistant training course, OR
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through State of Georgia, OR
Current enrollment in a nursing program and completion of 2 clinical rotations.

Responsibilities

Perform assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN.
Clean patient rooms.
Operate various clinical equipment.
Assist with emergencies.
Assist with patient procedures.
Collect and transport patient specimens and complete applicable forms.
Communicate with patients, families, and members of the patient care team.
Maintain hospital and unit-specific competencies.
Promote a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction.
Assist in emergency situations as directed by an RN/LPN.
Ensure prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort, and rest are provided.
Comply with Standard Precautions guidelines, Infection Control procedures, and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment.
Assist in the use of bag-valve-mask device, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, emergency cart, and bedside glucose monitoring machine.
Operate converter chair, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometer, sphygmomanometer, pulse oximeter, and computers.
Record patient intake and output.
Assist RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs by assisting with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, elimination, and hygiene.
Observe and report significant or unusual information about the patient and environment to the RN/LPN and document appropriately and in a timely manner.
Transport patients and patient specimens throughout the hospital as needed.
Contribute to the completion of patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
Assist with postmortem care.
Utilize appropriate technology to complete all related processes.
Participate in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement program as required by department leadership.
Serve as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing and Hospital policies and procedures.
May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.
Participate in the orientation of nursing support assistants to the unit.
Perform other related responsibilities as required.
