About The Position

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) collaborates with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients within the Inpatient Trauma department at Miami Valley Hospital. This role involves checking vital signs, assisting patients with mobility, dressing, and eating, collecting samples, and reporting any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse. The PCT also helps with activities of daily living (ADLs), patient walks, and weighing patients. Working under the supervision of a nurse, the PCT ensures tasks are performed safely and correctly. Sometimes referred to as a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk (PCT/HUC), the role may also include assisting with paperwork and administrative tasks to ensure the hospital runs smoothly and patients receive optimal care. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team, contributing significantly to patient recovery and well-being.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training, OR
  • Direct patient care experience within the last five years, performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and direct patient care activities (e.g., bathing, turning/positioning, toileting), OR
  • Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, even with interruptions, while maintaining a positive demeanor
  • Computer proficiency
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills

Responsibilities
