A Patient Care Technician, or PCT, works with nurses and doctors to care for patients. They perform tasks such as checking vital signs (temperature, heartbeat, breathing), assisting patients with movement, dressing, and eating, and collecting samples like urine. PCTs report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse and help with patient walks, hygiene, and weighing. The PCT works under the supervision of the nurse, ensuring tasks are done safely and correctly. Sometimes, a PCT might also function as a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk, assisting with paperwork and other administrative tasks to ensure the hospital runs smoothly and patients receive the best care possible. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team, helping patients feel better and get healthy again.
