About The Position

Assists with admission process by taking initial vital signs, measurements and weights, orienting patient/family to unit, hospital facilities and services, and documenting appropriately per unit standards.  Delivers patient care promptly, accurately and according to unit standards, policies and procedures, as well as patient’s plan of care. Contributes relevant and appropriate information to RN. Maintains confidentiality of patient related issues. Supports the Patient Bill of Rights and Hospital Mission and Values. Participates in meeting and reinforcing patient’s educational needs, documents accordingly. Assists physician and/or nurse with procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique May perform EKGs if trained Monitors and accurately records patient intake and output. Reports changes in patient’s status (e.g., changes in vital signs, level of consciousness, weight, mobility status, comfort level, feeding pattern or any unusual occurrences) to RN in a timely manner. Assists patient with routine activities of daily living: feeding, bathing, ambulating and skin care according to policy and documents appropriately. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills appropriate to the age, type and development level of patients.  Answers call lights timely and intervenes appropriately. Responds to patient and family requests promptly.  Transports patients to various departments and upon discharge. Stocks supplies for unit and/or patient. Removes equipment and supplies not in use; cleans equipment and returns to appropriate storage location. Keeps patient area clean and free of trash and clutter. Keeps linen appropriately stored; empties linen hampers and trash, as needed.  Provides and documents patient treatments. Provides emotional support to patients and families, documents appropriately.   Attends and participates in unit related inservices, conferences and meetings.  Collaborates by working with others to achieve unit and organizational goals. Utilized proper chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.  Participates in unit staff meetings and CQI plan to improve organizational performance and achieve unit and organizational goals. Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.  Performs additional duties as requested by Charge Nurse or Department Director. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant course or equivalent on the job training specific to the area for a minimum of three months.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
