About The Position
Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park. Medicine - 1 West manages patients with a full range of clinical issues-from heart failure and pneumonia, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and a multitude of other conditions and diseases. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is lead by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. Additionally the unit works in collaboration with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care. Role Purpose Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- No Experience

- Certified Nurse Assistant
- CNA, PCT, EMT, NA, Surg Tech experience, or nursing fundamentals course complete
Responsibilities
- Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
- Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
- Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
- Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
- Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
