About The Position

The ER Patient Care Technicians (PCT), under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the nursing supervisor, is responsible for the nursing care of the patients in the emergency department and is responsible for the direction of patient care. The PCT delivers care based on patient needs appropriate for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. He/she demonstrates an interest in a patient-centered approach to total nursing care. Demonstrates cooperation, flexibility, and resourcefulness when dealing with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel. The PCT shall be responsible for assisting with planning; supervising and evaluating the nursing care of patients and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care, and policies. Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Medical Assistant with emergency department experience. Corpsman, Certified Nursing Assistant with emergency department experience preferred. Must have the knowledge and understanding of the entire aging process. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public. Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Requires good interpersonal skills. Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands/deadlines. The position requires some overtime and the ability to coordinate several activities simultaneously. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must be able to read, write, follow instructions, and document care given in English. Ability to plan and organize.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • BLS required within immediately upon hire
  • Must have the knowledge and understanding of the entire aging process
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public
  • Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards when no directions are given
  • Requires good interpersonal skills
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands/deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant with emergency department experience
  • Corpsman, Certified Nursing Assistant with emergency department experience preferred
  • Prefer at least one year of experience in a hospital or medically related environment.
