About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) role at Emory Healthcare involves performing essential patient care and observation duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The position focuses on maintaining a supportive and healing environment for patients while ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene standards. The PCT will assist in various clinical tasks, communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams, and contribute to the overall patient care experience.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certification required.
  • One year of direct patient care experience, or successful completion of a nursing assistant training course, or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through the State of Georgia, or current enrollment in a nursing program with completion of 2 clinical rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN.
  • Clean the patient's room and operate various clinical equipment.
  • Assist with emergencies and patient procedures.
  • Collect and transport patient specimens and complete applicable forms.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and members of the patient care team.
  • Maintain hospital and unit-specific competencies.
  • Promote a supportive and healing environment for customer and staff satisfaction.
  • Ensure prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort, and rest are provided.
  • Comply with Standard Precautions guidelines, Infection Control procedures, and safety standards.
  • Assist in the use of medical devices and equipment such as bag-valve-mask devices, oxygen, and suction equipment.
  • Record patient intake and output and assist RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs.
  • Observe and report significant or unusual information about the patient and environment to the RN/LPN.
  • Transport patients and patient specimens throughout the hospital as needed.
  • Contribute to the completion of patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Assist with postmortem care and utilize appropriate technology for related processes.
  • Participate in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement programs as required.
  • Serve as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and hospital policies.
  • Participate in the orientation of nursing support assistants to the unit.
