This position involves assisting in the ongoing maintenance of hospital and department quality initiatives, including patient safety initiatives and bedside glucose monitoring quality controls. The role requires practicing proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and reporting any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or injuries immediately to the Manager.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Nice To Haves

  • Listed on the Georgia Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • One (1) year of experience as a Patient Care Technician
  • Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the ongoing maintenance of hospital and department quality initiatives, including patient safety initiatives and bedside glucose monitoring quality controls.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuries to the Manager.
  • Performs daily care activities including bathing, personal hygiene, feeding, and dressing patients.
  • Obtains and records vital signs, intake and output amounts, and other measures as designated.
  • Collects and tests specimens as required and observes patient's condition, reporting abnormal symptoms or adverse reactions to the nurse.
  • Assists patients with position changes, range of motion exercises, standing, and walking.
  • Transports patients as required for treatments and procedures.
  • Assists physicians and nurses with physical examinations and treatments, performs surgical preps, and simple dressing changes.
  • Inserts and removes foley catheters as directed.
  • Provides additional therapies, procedures, and treatments, including NG tube maintenance, EKG lead placement, suction, and oxygen setup.
  • Transports equipment, specimens, blood, etc., throughout the hospital.
  • Maintains technical training in the use of equipment pertinent to specific area.
  • May enter physician orders for tests and procedures into the computer system.
  • May transcribe medical orders as required.
  • Documents care activities and patient data in the appropriate area of the patient record.
  • Performs 12 lead EKGs as designated by department after completing training and competency check-off.
  • May assist mothers with breastfeeding and provide patient education relating to infant care.
