Job Summary Performs patient observation, documents patient care and response to care and communicates significant information to the registered nurse and other appropriate team members. Supports the therapy and management teams by assisting with non-clinical tasks and ensuring the efficient operation of therapy services. This role includes preparing treatment areas, transporting patients, maintaining equipment, and providing administrative assistance. The Aide works under the direct supervision of licensed therapy and/or nursing staff and contributes to a safe and positive environment for patients and staff.

Requirements

Must read, write and speak fluent English.
Must have good and regular attendance.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function under stressful situations.
Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a team.
Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Understanding of basic body mechanics and safe patient handling practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to assist with patient mobility and move equipment safely.
Work performed in clinical rehabilitation settings.
May involve exposure to body fluids and cleaning agents.
Must adhere to safety and infection prevention protocols at all times.
High school graduate or GED.
BLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of a Patient Care Training program preferred.
State Certified Nursing Assistant licensure or Physical Therapy Aide preferred.
Healthcare experience preferred.
Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively.

Responsibilities

Assists patients with activities of daily living.
Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of unit activities, needs, and problems related to patient care.
Provide basic care to patients.
Provides general nursing care such as positioning the patient, lifting, turning, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in the use of bed pan, urinal or commode, ambulating the patient, pre operative and post operative care, and application of binder or anti embolic stockings, bed bath, oral/hair/back care, changing bed linens, cleaning over bed table, and bedside stand, straightening patient room and other general care necessary during the shift.
Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake and output measurements accurately. Documents in a timely manner.
Prepares patient room and bed for admission and transfers and ensures all necessary equipment is in room. Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room, ventilation, and lighting.
Assists in patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures. Assist with handling and care of patient belongings and other personal property.
Answers patient call lights, telephone, and paging system and responds as appropriate.
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs routine treatment procedures such as enemas, application of appliances for heat and cold.
Able to release, remove, and reapply restraints to patient under the direction of an RN.
Ensures patient is in proper position and alignment.
Assist Registered Nurse and/or LVN/LPN with complicated patient treatment procedures.
Serves and removes patient meal tray in timely manner. Assists with feeding and/or preparing items such as opening milk container, cutting food for patient.
Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
Perform these duties under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Functions as a member of the Patient Care Team in conjunction with the Licensed Direct Care Giver
Prepares and maintains treatment areas and equipment before and after therapy sessions.
Assists with patient transport to and from therapy areas as needed.
Supports patients with non-clinical needs during treatment sessions under direct supervision.
Cleans and organizes therapy equipment and ensures supplies are stocked.
Performs basic clerical duties, including data entry, scheduling assistance, and filing.
Observes and reports any safety or maintenance concerns to the appropriate staff.
Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy in interactions with patients, families, and staff.
Complies with all hospital safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies.
