BJC is offering a Patient Care Tech (PCT) Academy! This is a paid 6-week accelerated training program which combines classroom instruction, hands-on skill labs and on-the-job training in a clinical practice. The training satisfies the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP). Training will begin April 6, 2026! Weeks 1-3: M-F: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Weeks 4-6: (3) 12-hour clinical shifts Locations include: Barnes Jewish Hospital, Barnes Jewish St. Peter's, Barnes Jewish West County, and Progress West Hospital! PLEASE NOTE: CURRENT BJC EMPLOYEES MUST BE IN CURRENT POSITION FOR 3 MONTHS TO BE ELIGIBLE For the March Academy, we are primarily looking for candidates interested in working the NIGHT shift from 6:45pm - 7:15am. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 21 bed unit dedicated to the care of patients in need of specialized nursing care at a critical point in their healthcare journey, where they are at high risk for clinical deterioration. Progressive care, with lower nurse patient ratios, allows for frequent assessment, intervention, treatment and specialized monitoring. The unit cares for pre and postoperative neurosurgical, neuro-medicine and stroke patients with complex needs using a team approach with nurses, charge nurse and patient care techs. Bedside, central monitoring, and remote telemetry are standard for all PCU patients. Many resources are available to nurses on this unit, including: Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Mananger, Assistant Nurse Managers and a Nurse Educator. Additionally this nursing team collaborates with and are supported by a wide array of the multidisciplinary providers, physicians and pharmacists. A specialized orientation is provided to prepare nurses to care for the neuroscience patient as well as training specific to Progressive Care. Ongoing education and professional development is supported and encouraged. Attention to nursing patients with the provision of excellent outcomes is what drives the work on this unit. Role Purpose Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.
