About The Position

The Patient Care Tech position at Miami County Medical Center requires a CNA or a candidate with at least 18 months of patient care experience. The role involves working various shifts, including mid shifts, nights, and weekends. Under the direct supervision of a Nurse, the Patient Care Tech is cross-trained in the roles of Unit Secretary and Unit Assistant/Nurse Tech. Responsibilities include providing direct patient care, technical assistance to nurses, and performing clerical and scheduling functions necessary for unit operations. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the Patient Care Tech must effectively communicate with patients and staff, remain self-motivated, and make decisions with limited supervision. Knowledge of emergency procedures and the ability to stay calm in stressful situations are also important.

Requirements

  • CNA certification or at least 18 months of patient care experience.
  • High School Graduate or General Educational Development.
  • CPR/AED/BLS certification, with BLS to be obtained within 14 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical and non-clinical duties to prepare for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment by cleaning equipment and using infection control techniques.
  • Document daily duties such as hygiene, vital signs, nutritional assistance, and ambulation.
  • Accurately collect and label specimens for transport to the lab.
  • Make rounds on patients and respond to call lights promptly.
  • Report any unusual incidents or changes in patient condition to appropriate staff.
  • Communicate relevant information to nurses and shift coordinators in a timely manner.
  • Use technology appropriately for data entry and retrieval.
  • Manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Contribute to the plan of care under the direction of the nurse.
  • Reinforce patient teaching initiated by the nurse.
