About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will perform a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions under the coordination of the Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include direct patient care such as hygiene, skin care, mobility, and monitoring. The PCT will also have multi-skills for what is needed on the unit, including performing duties related to phlebotomy and EKGs. The incumbent is expected to manage equipment and assist in all procedures on the unit, as well as perform other similar and related duties as assigned. This position is part-time, requiring 24 hours of work per week, primarily during the day shift, with every other weekend and holiday required.

Requirements

• At least one year of patient care experience (can vary in long-term care, specialty, acute care, etc.) for Level II.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Proficient in reading and writing in English.
• Able to maintain professional composure in medium to high-stress situations.
• Effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• C.N.A. preferred.
• Experience in a level II PCT role at Baystate Health for Level III.
• Experience in an acute or specialty-specific care setting for Level IV.

Responsibilities

• Provides age-appropriate care to patients.
• Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for various age groups and applies developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.
• Monitors basic physiological parameters and records routine vital signs.
• Administers treatments and procedures per BMC policy/procedure.
• Assists patients with the elimination of body wastes.
• Performs Point of Care (POC) Testing.
• Communicates effectively with team and patients.
• Functions as a member of the team and assists team members with clinical and non-clinical activities.
• Demonstrates competency for one-to-one observation of patients.
