About The Position

The Patient Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner, assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Additionally, the Patient Care Technician may assume the responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator. FULL-TIME NIGHT SHIFT PCT NEEDED Cardiovascular-Thoracic Unit: We are a 27 bed unit We care for patients coming from the PACU, Cath Lab, ICU and ER. Patient types we care for are STEMI’s, Heart Failure, Post Open Heart, TAVR’s, Carotid’s and all things Rhythm Related. We overflow for the ICU and therefore have a wide variety of patient acuities. As a PCT on CVTU you will also be trained as a telemetry tech and have the opportunity to work in the Northern Tele Hub where we monitor patients from 5 different hospitals. Pay increase will be given once you pass the telemetry test and complete a telemetry orientation. There will be call requirements and the rotating of weekends and holidays. Department: Cardiovascular Thoracic Unit Additional Details: Shift differentials are given for evenings, nights, and weekends. Tele Tech Essential Functions Monitor Cardiac Rhythms: Continuously observe patient cardiac rhythms and ensure accurate ECG readings are maintained. Interpret ECG Data: Accurately interpret and report changes in ECG rhythms to the registered nurse promptly. Telemetry Equipment Management: Prepare, maintain, and clean telemetry equipment, including replacing batteries and ECG leads prior to patient admission and post-discharge. Documentation: Accurately document ECG data, including rate, rhythm, and interval measurements, in patient records to communicate ECG history for multidisciplinary review. Patient Tracking: Assist in tracking patient locations during off-monitor procedures, including those requiring transport to other departments, and ensure ECG rhythm visualization upon patient return. Crash Cart Maintenance: Implement crash cart checks as required by the facility at the beginning of each shift to ensure availability and functionality. Continuity of Care: Provide comprehensive patient ECG history to incoming monitor technicians to ensure seamless care transitions. Training and Mentorship: Assist in training new associates by sharing knowledge and skills related to telemetry monitoring and procedures. Admission/Discharge Log: Maintain admission and discharge logbooks to provide a backup database and support patient care continuity as required by the facility. Equipment Log: Maintain equipment logbooks for portable telemetry equipment as required by the facility. PCT Essential Functions Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs, while providing excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests. Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed. May perform telemetry duties as required based on the unit, and function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing patient care needs, and collaborating with other members of the patient care team as required. Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN as required when working on a clinical unit. Collaborate and consult with the RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care. May assume the responsibilities of a health unit coordinator, including answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, organizing, stocking, and maintaining unit supplies. Implements plan of care as delegated. Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice. Performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards. Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency. Requirements

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • At the time of hire, Utah candidates must meet one of the following:
  • Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in the state of Utah. If CNA certificate is expired, must be renewed before start date.
  • Completion of a recent Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program. Verification of CNA program completion is required (program must have been completed within the past (1) year). CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.
  • Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing Course. Must have earned a passing grade within the past two (2) years. Official transcript is required. CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.
  • Current enrollment in nursing school program.
