Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Current Texas Certified Nurse’s Aide OR Graduate of an approved Hospital specific PCT Training Program OR Nursing student who has completed fundamentals within the past 2 years OR Military experience with medical training equivalent OR 1 year of applicable PCT/EMT experience in lieu of an active and approved certification.
  • BLS Required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general clerical duties and observe telemetry monitors for a designated time frame.
  • Provide specific non-professional services under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse/RN.
  • Operate the call light system and recognize emergency alarms.
  • Recognize and document basic arrhythmias and respond appropriately.
  • Perform a variety of specific patient care activities consistent with nursing department goals and guidelines.
  • Answer the unit telephone in a courteous manner.
  • Answer patient calls via intercom and refer messages to appropriate nurse.
  • Notify Charge Nurse/RN of pending admissions and patient arrivals.
  • Prepare charts for new admissions and for medical records following patient dismissal.
  • Label charts and doors with appropriate identification and allergy information.
  • Accurately post all admissions, transfers, and discharges on activity boards and desk calendars.
  • Check, order, and distribute supplies and forms according to unit policy.
  • Complete and prepare necessary forms for a well-functioning nursing unit.
  • Round hourly with patients addressing pain, potty, position, plan, personal items, and bed alarms.
  • Update patient whiteboard during bedside shift report and throughout the shift.
  • Respond to call lights and bed alarms with urgency to ensure patient safety.
  • Keep patient activity board updated.
  • Chart care of patients in medical records and inform Charge Nurse of any abnormalities.
  • Perform blood glucose checks on patients according to policy.
  • Pick up meal trays and document intake in patient medical record.
  • Assist with unit errands when requested.
  • Maintain neat and organized appearance of nursing station.
