About The Position

Join our dedicated team at UPMC Northwest as a full-time Patient Care Technician on the Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit—make a meaningful impact every day while working variable shifts in a supportive and dynamic environment. Shifts are typically 8 hours and are primarily day and evening based with some nights required as needed. Rotating weekends and holidays are required. Candidates with a background in behavioral health/mental health/substance abuse are encouraged to apply!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One of the following is also required: 1 year of general healthcare experience, 6+ months as a UPMC NA/CNA with PCT competency, Enrollment in a healthcare training program (PT/OT/PA) with one clinical rotation completed, or Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
  • Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class and eRecord training upon hire.
  • CPR or BLS certification (AHA-compliant) required within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support patient care by assisting with daily living activities, procedures, and therapies under RN supervision.
  • Accurately document care provided and report changes in patient status to the RN.
  • Respond to patient needs by answering call lights, delivering meals, and transporting patients within the facility.
  • Assist in educating patients and families and apply or monitor restraints per policy.
  • Communicate effectively with the care team and maintain a respectful, team-oriented approach.
  • Follow all hospital policies, safety procedures, and infection control standards.
  • Support quality initiatives and department operations by identifying improvement opportunities and actively participating in team efforts.
