About The Position

The goal of this position is to provide clerical services which result in the accurate resolution of patient requests, such as scheduling appointments, placing orders, and communicating patient requests to other team members or clinicians. Patient Care Specialists engage in established protocols to ensure consistent service delivery.

Requirements

  • 2+ years work experience in customer service preferred.
  • 2+ years work experience in healthcare desired.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time.
  • Must be able to move or transport items weighing up to 20 pounds around the office.
  • Must be able to move around inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, supplies, etc.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a fax machine, copier, scanner, printer, calculator, and/or phone.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with coworkers, Supervisors, and patients via digital, verbal, and written mediums.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist all patients initially as they enter the clinic.
  • Copy all supporting documents needed for billing insurances (i.e., ID and insurance cards) and verify information in patients' charts.
  • Answer phone calls and route busy phone traffic.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and calculate patient responsibility.
  • Ensure that all insurance authorizations have been obtained accurately and entered into the system.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments based on established guidelines for doing so.
  • Dispense contact lenses and various ophthalmic materials to patients.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure patient requests are received by the appropriate team member.
  • Ensure that all clinic procedures comply with HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Calculate patient charges and collect payments at checkout.
  • Reconcile all monies and credit card receipts daily.
  • Educate patients on the products and services which are available to them and/or their clinician recommends.
  • Actively engage in patient communications.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by Management or the Practice Owners.
