About The Position

Join Cleveland Clinic Akron General, a healthcare system providing world-class care for over 100 years. The 8100 Family Practice Unit at Akron General is a high acuity, fast-paced, Neuro/Cardiac Telemetry unit. Patients in this unit require extensive ADL assistance and care for conditions such as strokes, pneumonia, FTT, weakness, confusion, sepsis, PEG care, central lines, multiple antibiotic therapies, blood transfusions, IV push/cardiac drip medications, and tracheostomy care. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA), you will be an integral part of ensuring patients receive the best possible treatment within a welcoming, hands-on environment that encourages education, mutual support, and teamwork. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within new hire period
  • Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
  • One year of recent acute care experience OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfers or emergencies
  • Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
  • Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height
  • Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction and removing urinary Foley Catheters
  • Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge
  • Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly
  • Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area
  • Document patient care in the electronic medical record
  • Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies
  • Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure
