In the Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients in numerous units, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers. As a PCNA on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you have an excellent opportunity to start your nursing career, gain extensive hands-on experience in various procedures and diverse populations, shadow with expert physicians and work in a supportive and caring healthcare setting. A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) days from 6:45 a.m. - 7:15 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within new hire period Nursing students must obtain prior to hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an approved Program for Nursing Assistants or previous hospital training
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification
  • Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders
  • Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher from the department/unit.
  • Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties.
  • Attend to patient and family needs and problems.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing and hygiene.
  • Report pertinent information regarding patient condition to appropriate nursing staff.
  • Assist patients with tray set up and feeding.
  • Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply.
  • Document care provided in the medical record.
  • Collect and transport specimens.
  • Provide RNs/LPNs with accurate and timely intake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly.
  • Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so.
  • Report patient needs to an RN/LPN immediately.
