The 52B Orthopaedic/Surgical Unit specializes in knee and hip replacement, shoulder, ankle, and spinal surgeries, requiring immediate and frequent mobilization to decrease hospital length of stay and post-surgical complications. In this role, you will play an integral part in ensuring patients receive the best treatment possible in a welcoming and hands-on environment that encourages education, mutual support, and teamwork.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or during new hire period.
  • Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills.

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).
  • One year of recent acute care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.
  • Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
  • Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, and height.
  • Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck's traction.
  • Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment, and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs, and respond to patient call lights promptly.
  • Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs, and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
