Akron General’s 7100 Unit is a high acuity cardiac Telemetry and Medical/Surgical Unit. This fast-paced team cares for patients who require extensive ADL assistance and complex medical attention. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant, you play an integral role in ensuring patients continue receiving the best treatment possible. You will find a welcoming and hands-on environment where caregivers encourage education, mutual support, and teamwork. Each day, you have numerous opportunities to make a difference in your community. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period
  • Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
  • One year of recent acute care experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer or emergencies.
  • Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
  • Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height.
  • Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, ice and heat pack application, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, oxygen equipment set up, overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction set up and removal of urinary Foley Catheters.
  • Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
  • Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area.
  • Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies.
  • Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
