Shift: Full Time, 36 hrs/week, Rotating Day/Night schedule The Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) completes patient care activities and provides clerical support as delegated by the RN.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
  • Effective communication with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. (Required proficiency)
  • Able to organize changing work assignments. (Required proficiency)
  • Flexibility. (Required proficiency)
  • Patient focused. (Required proficiency)
  • Positive, can-do attitude; self-motivated and willing to learn. (Required proficiency)
  • Basic computer data entry skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal. (Required proficiency)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required within 90 Days)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting (Preferred)
  • Basic patient care skills. (Preferred proficiency)
  • One-year job stability. (Preferred proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic patient care tasks including but not limited to: ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene, and venipuncture (where applicable) and/or as delegated by the RN, in the implementation of the established plan of care.
  • Familiarize yourself with equipment such as wheelchairs, EKG equipment, patient assistive devices, and patient care equipment specific to assigned population
  • Provide compassion in all interactions with patients, families, and peers.
  • Follow established evidence-based prevention guidelines to promote positive patient outcomes.
  • Provide a safe environment in patient rooms and on unit.
  • Facilitate stocking and ordering of supplies for patient care.
  • Assist with unit communication.
  • Act as a key resource for onboarding and training new team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
