About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the NICU is responsible for providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role focuses on meeting the developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients while maintaining a safe and clean environment conducive to patient and family well-being. The PCT assists with daily living activities and supports the nursing staff in caring for compromised neonates in a family-centered care model.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Responsibilities

• Assist patients in completing activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting, and feeding.
• Collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures.
• Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters as required.
• Record patient information and required data to meet documentation requirements.
• Provide supportive and caring nursing care to compromised neonates needing medical interventions.
• Ensure family involvement in the care process and provide emotional support to families.
• Attend to safety needs of infants and their families, ensuring confidentiality and privacy.
