About The Position

The Patient Care Coordinator plays a crucial role in assisting physicians and staff in coordinating patient care within an orthopedic clinic. This position serves as the primary liaison between patients, staff, and physicians, ensuring smooth patient flow and effective communication throughout the care process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in a medical office setting required.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates patient flow during office hours and assists surgeons as needed.
  • Checks patients out and schedules follow-up appointments, ensuring no patient is neglected or delayed.
  • Provides patient education related to treatment plans.
  • Performs various clerical duties including copying, faxing, scanning, and filing patient documentation.
  • Communicates changes to the clinic schedule as necessary.
  • Responds to patient concerns or questions in a helpful and objective manner, involving physicians or supervisors as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with front desk/registration and clinical teams to assist with patient visits and flow.
  • Facilitates rescheduling of appointments when necessary due to physician delays.
  • Books surgeries and completes all associated paperwork, including obtaining insurance pre-certification.
  • Schedules, cancels, and reschedules all patient appointments and testing.
  • Ensures special surgical instruments/devices or DME are ordered for surgery and post-op care.
  • Prepares x-rays and other patient information for the doctor prior to surgery.
  • Completes chart preparations to meet physician preferences and specifications.
  • Responds timely to communications from providers, patients, and hospital staff.
  • Completes disability forms or other documents requested by patients, reviewing with physicians as needed.
  • Works with Patient Accounts to facilitate accurate and timely billing, ensuring charges are entered and e-bills are complete.
  • May provide coverage for vacation/sick calls for other team members.
  • Places prescription refill orders at the direction of the physician/mid-level.
  • Updates and maintains patient documentation in the EMR system.
  • Works cooperatively with coworkers, providers, and management, sharing knowledge and insights constructively.
