The Patient Care Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of appointments and support services for departments and physicians. This role involves interfacing with insurance companies and other payors on prior authorization and referral requests, abstracting charts, and assigning CPT, ICD, and HCPCS codes for the purpose of obtaining prior authorization. The coordinator assists billing personnel with the preparation of denials and submitting appeals for payment, while also resolving patient problems, concerns, and complaints. The position serves as a patient advocate and liaison, interfacing with patients, families, staff, and department/physicians. The coordinator promotes organizational values, a positive work environment, and efficient, quality patient care, ensuring adherence to hospital and department policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
