About The Position

The Patient Care Companion in the Float Pool at Advocate Aurora Health is a part-time role focused on providing essential support and care to patients during their stay. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Good communication skills and courteous interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and use patient handling equipment when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures a secure and safe environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazards and observing the patient.
  • Follows established policies and procedures for precautions, including suicide, seizure, falls, and elopement.
  • Accompanies assigned patients at all times, ensuring they are never left unattended.
  • Provides general patient care duties as directed by the registered nurse, including personal hygiene and comfort measures.
  • Assists patients with mobility and toileting needs, demonstrating awareness of skin breakdown risks.
  • Maintains and provides special patient supplies and appliances as needed.
  • Responds to call lights and communicates patient requests to the registered nurse in a timely manner.
  • Assists with meeting the nutritional needs of patients, including meal setup and feeding assistance.
  • Documents patient information and communicates observed changes in behavior to the registered nurse.
  • Acts as a patient/family advocate, providing comfort and assistance as needed.
