About The Position

Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse observes assigned patients and reports observations that may place the patient at risk for injury (intentional or unintentional harm) as well as changes in the patient’s cognitive and mental status. Assists in promoting a safe and caring patient environment.

Requirements

• High School graduate or its equivalent preferred.
• Ability to converse and socialize with patient.
• Ability to follow instruction and observe safety precautions.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a volunteer preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observes patient’s activities and reports abnormal behavior actions (mood and mental status changes verbal and non-verbal) to a supervisor.
• Communicates with patients to provide social interaction.
• Assists in promoting a safe and caring patient environment.
• Observes patient rights.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Maintains patient privacy.
• Follows hospital policy and procedures regarding patient and staff safety practices.
