About The Position

Job Summary: The Patient Care Assistant (PCA)-Dialysis Apheresis Resource Team (DART), plays a key role in supporting the dialysis department in maintaining all dialysis machines in proper working condition. Follows established policies, and manufacture guidelines in cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing machines. Ensures that machines and supplies are delivered to all hospitals under the Loma Linda University Medical Center license in a designated time frame based on patient’s schedules. Ensures that machines are in working condition and are not due for maintenance. Ensures that supply carts are stocked with up-to-date supplies that are needed for scheduled treatment. Maintains accurate logs on cleaning and disinfection of each machine. Participates in quality control activities on the machines as manufacture recommendation. Performs follow-up testing as needed and directed by Supervisor – Dialysis Equipment. Meets qualifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Participates in training, educational activities and staff meetings; assists with the orientation and training of other personnel as requested. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Successful completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals course required. Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) may be considered in lieu of CNA program or completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals course. Minimum six months of experience as a nursing assistant or dialysis technician preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates competencies in fundamentals of patient care, cleaning and disinfecting and running of dialysis and apheresis machines and knowledge of scope of practice for unlicensed assistive personnel healthcare providers. Exhibits good customer service skills Able to read, write legibly and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Outlook, organization electronic medical record, event reporting program; operate and troubleshoot patient care equipment required for this position; perform basic direct and indirect patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions; comprehend and follow-through with instructions; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate; accept direction; think critically and use good judgment; work with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch; exhibit professional behavior at all times.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum six months of experience as a nursing assistant or dialysis technician preferred
  • Spanish preferred
