The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) will work under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the Neurosciences & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) - D5N. This position is crucial in providing compassionate and competent patient care during the assigned work period. The PCA will be responsible for collecting patient data, completing personal care tasks, and performing point of care testing such as whole blood glucose monitoring. Additionally, the PCA will assist in turning, positioning, and mobilizing patients, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout their acute care stay. The role emphasizes collaboration with the caregiving team to focus on the patients' progress toward discharge, especially during transitions within their care. The PCA is trained to perform technical procedures, including blood draws and electrocardiography, which are essential for monitoring patient health. They will also promote the availability of resources for patient care by collaborating with Material's Coordinators for the use, stocking, and storage of supplies. Maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment of care is a key responsibility, as is providing companionship for patients requiring observation. The PCA plays a vital role in assisting the caregiving team to ensure that all patients receive high-quality care that meets their needs and expectations.
