About The Position

The Patient Care Associate position is a full-time role within the Level 1 One Med/Surg department. The position requires working four shifts per week, consisting of two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts, covering both days and evenings, with a requirement to work every other weekend and holidays as needed. The primary responsibility of the Patient Care Associate is to provide direct patient care that is appropriate to the patient's age, culture, and developmental needs under the supervision of a Professional Nurse. This includes assisting patients with daily living tasks such as dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting, and ensuring patient safety. The role also involves technical skills such as obtaining 12 lead EKGs, setting up respiratory equipment, glucometer monitoring, bladder catheterization, and transcribing orders when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Excellent bedside manner and customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Successful completion of applicable clearances as outlined in Human Resources policy HR-106 within 90 days of commencing employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a nursing assistant program (with proof of completion).
  • Nursing student after successful completion of their first quarter/semester of nursing school.
  • Previous nursing assistant experience, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant).
  • BCLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the direction of a Professional Nurse.
  • Assist patients with daily living tasks including dressing, bathing, feeding, and toileting.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and provide catheter care.
  • Answer call lights and assist with patient ambulation and turning.
  • Ensure patient safety at all times.
  • Perform technical skills such as obtaining 12 lead EKGs and setting up respiratory equipment.
