About The Position

The Patient Care Associate 2 at Jackson West ER is a licensed healthcare team member responsible for performing advanced supportive administrative and clinical duties under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role focuses on delivering age-specific care and addressing patients' hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination, and comfort needs. The position requires knowledge and skills in specialty areas and is classified as a Level 4 job in the nursing support ladder.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of related experience is generally required.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of job-appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Must meet and maintain current all unit-specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures as required by the clinical area.
  • Effective 4/25/2024, one of the following credentials is required: Proof of completion of a school training program for patient care technician and proof of phlebotomy training; FL Licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and proof of phlebotomy training; Proof of completion of a school training program for Medical Assisting (Phlebotomy included); FL Licensure as EMT (Phlebotomy included).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and modify care and patient/family education using a systematic process.
  • Assist healthcare team with advanced procedures, prepare supplies and equipment, and provide patient/family support.
  • Perform various tasks associated with generalized patient care, including vital signs, feeding, mobility, IV lines, drainage, and personal hygiene.
  • Utilize specialized equipment as needed for patient care, such as spirometers and restraints.
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms, treatment areas, and stretchers between patient use.
  • Transport patients to and from treatment areas as needed.
  • Clean assigned clinic area after patient treatment according to departmental procedures.
  • Take and pick up food orders for patient kitchen evaluation.
  • Assist in the discharge process according to JHS policies under supervision.
  • Make daily rounds of assigned work area and initiate work orders for repairs as needed.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment for the patient floor, including inventory, ordering, stocking, and charging for supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with office duties, such as answering phones and taking messages.
  • Follow and perform all related unit-specific policies and procedures as detailed on the competency checklist.
  • Utilize job and unit-specific equipment as required.
  • Respond to medical and other emergency calls, assist paramedics in providing emergency medical treatment and triage, and assist in loading patients for transportation to medical facilities.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, sterile equipment, and assist during procedures under medical team direction.

  • Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
