About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is responsible for direct patient care tasks as assigned and under supervision of professional nursing personnel. Also provides indirect care to maintain unit functions as directed by the professional nursing staff i.e. care and cleaning of specific equipment, transportation of patients, stocking of supplies and equipment, etc. Position Purpose: The Patient Care Assistant (uncertified, certified, unlicensed, or licensed) works in a collaborative environment at Nazareth Hospital to provide safe, quality health care services & / or assistance to patients under the supervision & direction of a registered nurse or other designated health care professional in accordance with level of experience, education, policies & procedures. What You Will Do: Employment Type/Shift: Per Diem Days Entry level position that provides training to function in an assistive role to the licensed nurse or other colleagues by performing patient care Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as delegated by the nurse. Participates in continuous surveillance, rounding or monitoring for safety. Offer compassion & patience as an essential member of the healthcare team (e.g., answering call lights, patient encouragement / greeting, stock / retrieve supplies or equipment, room turnover, mobilize patients, repositioning, transporting, discharge coordination). Completes admissions according to policy (room setup, vital signs, orientation, etc.) • Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations in conjunction with licensed nursing personnel. • Completes work within assigned time frame. • Monitors patient condition per policy. • Monitors patient for potential risk factors. • Recognizes and integrates patient special needs and individualizes care • Includes pain management and supportive care issues. • Assumes accountability for the delivery of patient care within the scope of nursing assistant. • Responsible for learning policies and nursing procedure applicable to nursing assistants and communicates to others. • Demonstrates attributes necessary to function as a team member, i.e. answers call lights promptly and courteously regardless of "assignment". • Provides a climate conductive to educational experiences for nursing students and new employees. • Functions as a preceptor when necessary. • Recognizes role of Nursing Assistant based on Hospital policy and State Board regulations. • Utilizes the information management system to enhance communication (i.e.; Meditech). • Communicates change in patient's condition to all appropriate individuals. • Communicates transfer of patient responsibility (i.e. shift report guided by the plan of care or any other pertinent documents, 1:1/close observation/ hand-off communication). • Cooperates with all areas in the admission and transfer of patients throughout the hospital to ensure efficiency. • Updates licensed nursing staff on a regular basis throughout shift. • Maintains fall risk precautions/interventions. • Runs errands if needed

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school, completing a GED, or obtained a high school diploma or GED.
