The Patient Care Assistant assists staff by performing patient care activities, EKG, phlebotomy, clerical, and other tasks to meet patient needs in compliance with established policies and procedures. This role involves assisting with special procedures and examinations, contributing to patient care plan implementation, taking and recording vital signs, preparing specimens, assisting with daily living activities, maintaining fluid intake/output records, providing comfort measures, observing and reporting patient responses, and completing documentation. The assistant also provides one-on-one observation for patient safety, obtains medical/lab records, communicates unit activities, and performs clinical area-specific procedures. Key functions include performing diagnostic EKGs, collecting specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture, and ensuring accurate documentation and processing of all procedures. Clerical duties such as answering phones, responding to call signals, filing, transcribing orders, and scheduling tests are also part of the role. The position requires maintaining patient medical records, utilizing computer systems for data entry, lifting and transporting patients, and maintaining confidentiality. The assistant must adhere to policies, respond to emergencies, complete continuous training, assist with equipment care, maintain a safe environment, and collaborate with forensic teams/law enforcement when caring for inmates/arrestees.
