Patient Care Assistant, ICU
About The Position
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The Patient Care Assistant I is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Physician/Registered Nurse. This position is responsible for supporting the Intensive Care Unit environment to maintain smooth, effective communication between healthcare practitioners, departments, patients, and visitors. In addition, this role is accountable for providing the most basic of patient care including patient data collection, personal hygiene, and assistance with activities of daily living such as ambulating, toileting and feeding. This position performs tasks as assigned and are instrumental in facilitating departmental/unit flow activities that support patient care and facilitate a safe, clean environment, utilizes effective communication and documents data relevant to the care of the patient within their defined scope of practice. This position demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as incorporating cultural differences, psychosocial and or spiritual needs when providing patient care. In addition, they collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes as well as facilitating admission, transfer, and discharge flow processes.
Requirements
- Basic computer knowledge preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent Acute Care experience preferred
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate or minimum of one (1) year nursing assistant experience or currently enrolled in Nursing Program with successful completion of at least (1) semester preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Card
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform assigned duties safely, competently and in a timely manner.
- Follows directions and communicates with the Registered Nurse and other members of the Healthcare Team in an organized, clear and timely manner.
- Collects and documents information pertinent to the patient's status in the patient's electronic medical record and notifies Registered Nurse of changes in patient's condition.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive and/or confidential material in printed, electronic or verbal form related to all patient and employee privacy.
- Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.
- Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion at all times.
- Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies, proper use of equipment, and maintain educational competencies and licensure.
