About The Position

The Opportunity: Patient Care Assistant | Yawkey 8 – HEMOC Infusion Unit Yawkey 8 Infusion Unit is a sixty bed/chair infusion unit in the Division of Hematology-Oncology. There are eighteen beds and forty-two chairs. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 8 PM; Saturday and Sunday from 8 AM to 6:30 PM

Requirements

• Effective customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers.
• Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using a combination of strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
• Ability to lift and transport patients, using the appropriate physical technique, in a safe manner for the patient and self.
• Required: Licensed, certified or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited program, at the time of hire, OR Candidate enrolled in a Nursing program, Pre-Med or PA undergraduate program with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed at time of hire.

• Must have recent experience, and/or training, in clinical patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist the RNs in Yawkey 8 with a variety of functions including vitals, phlebotomy and EKGs
• Transport patients
• Check rooms and equipment
• Assist patients with dressing and feeding
• Some clerical functions
• Responding to patient requests in a timely manner
• Safeguarding patient confidentiality
• Monitoring patient safety
• Communicating in a respectful manner
